Local arrested after saloon shooting

On Behalf of | Aug 17, 2021 | Criminal Law

Fights and arguments can quickly escalate, especially when alcohol and crowded settings are involved. Cooler heads seldom prevail under these conditions. And, while a shooting at a saloon may sound like the beginning of a western movie, it actually happened here on Saturday. It has, unfortunately, lead to one death, two injuries and one in handcuffs.

The saloon incident

According to the Mobile Police Department, the saloon was the Saddle Up Saloon at 9 North Jackson Street, and the shooting incident occurred Saturday morning. During the early morning hours, an incident occurred in the saloon that allegedly led to a local man discharging a firearm. The bullets impacted three people and sent bar attendees scrambling out of the bar and into the street. Witnesses alleged they could hear the gunshots from local businesses and described the scene as chaos.

After the shooting

When MPD arrived, they allegedly locked down the scene to begin their investigation and seek out any injuries. They discovered one dead from a gunshot wound, and that two others were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. A local man was arrested at the scene, and then transported to the Metro jail. He now faces two counts of second-degree assault and murder.

What to do once the handcuffs come out

It is extremely important for our Alexander City, Alabama, residents to know that their criminal defense starts as soon as the handcuffs come out. This is because, from the very first encounter with a police officer, anything and everything one says and does can be used against them. This is why it is so important to utilize the right to remain silent and ask for an attorney immediately. Even something innocuous can be spun out and misinterpreted to imply guilt. It is always just better to wait for the attorney and go from there.
